HPLC Analog to Digital Converters

An Analog To Digital Converter(ADC, A/D, A-D, or A-to-D) is a device or system that converts an analog signal (a measured response to changes in voltage or millivoltage) into a digital signal (a discrete-time signal where the time and the amplitude have discrete values). The process of analog-to-digital conversion has two steps, sampling and quantization. An ADC is defined by its bandwidth (the difference between the upper and lower frequencies in a continuous set of frequencies, typically measured in hertz) and its signal-to-noise ratio (a measure that compares the level of a desired signal to the level of background noise, typically expressed in decibels). The resolution of the converter indicates the number of discrete values it can produce over the range of analog values.

  1. What is the interface to the computer? The common interfaces are GPIB, RS-232, Ethernet, and USB. Always keep in mind the type of interface that will work with your computer when choosing an ADC.
  2. How many channels does it have? Analog-To-Digital Converters most commonly have one or two channels. You may want to choose a multichanneled ADC, depending upon your process and needs.

Perkin Elmer 970 Analog to Digital Interface

The Perkin Elmer PE Nelson 900 Series Interface Model 970 is an analog to digital interface that acquires data and stores it in a local buffer memory. The readings are transmitted to the host computer through either an IEEE-488 General Purpose Instrumentation Bus or an RS-232C serial link. Each Intelligent Interface is capable of multiplexing data from two detectors during a single run. This unit has multiple rear communication ports and features LED display lights for power, ready, over range, sampling and under ranges.
Electrical Requirements: 100-120 Volts AC, 50/60 Hz, 260mA / 220-240 Volts AC, 50/60 Hz, 130mA
